Overview

The Supervisor assumes responsibility to manage the daily activities of the department to provide high quality work in a safe environment. The Supervisor aids in developing staff, collaborating with multidisciplinary professionals, and providing service excellence. This individual remains competent in the area of practice and is able to take on staff assignments as appropriate and as needed.

 

The Supervisor assists the Director with but not limited to:
• Workforce planning;
• Establishing and implementing standards for practice and maintain authority, accountability and responsibility for staff in their area of responsibility;
• The ongoing support and cultivation of a culture of shared decision making;
• Budgeting and planning.

 

Supervises department operations and staff: Provides general direction, organization, monitoring, and supervision for department operations. Spot-checks work completed by team and reviews work for efficiency and overall results.

Assists director and team with the following, but not limited to: project management, professional development services such as AHA Training Center, continuing education, learning management system, orientation & onboarding, patient & staff education, simulation, and student experiences; organizational development services, performance management, and support of library services and pastoral & spiritual care services.

Qualifications

Education:

 

1) Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2) Relevant master’s degree preferred.
3) Preference is given to candidates with degrees in education, workforce development, human resources, organizational development, nursing, or a related field.

 

Experience:

 

1) Three years relevant, recent experience.
2) Three years supervisory experience preferred.
3) Experience with word processing software.
4) Experience with spreadsheet and database software is preferred.
5) Experience with project management is preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

 

1) Demonstrated leadership ability and the ability to direct others on a routine basis, as well as handle problem situations in the absence of the Director.
2) Accepts and adapts to new and changing work requirements/assignments and priorities.
3) Effective performance requires strong interpersonal, organizational, project management, and problem solving skills; strong oral and written communication; excellent presentations skills; strong commitment to confidentiality of reports/records; tract and diplomacy; and being self-motivated, reliable and able to function independently within a team.
4) Possesses a customer service focus and demonstrates ability to be an effective team player.
5) Cooperates and works together with co-workers and management in an open-office work setting, achieving goals and objectives of the Department; communicates tactfully and diplomatically with ancillary departments, Medical Staff, patients, visitors, vendors, and all other professionals applicable to job description.
6) Conducts business in a professional and cordial manner that upholds the integrity and reputation of Mount Nittany Health System.
7) Knowledge of human resource laws and regulations as they relate to the management of staff.

 

License/Certification/Registration:

 

1) Meets the American Heart Association’s (AHA) standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.
2) If needed to perform the duties of a professional development specialist, temporarily or in a limited capacity, the incumbent is required to maintain the licensures and certifications required of the position in a current, active status.
3) Relevant professional certification preferred.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

 

Receives minimal supervision from the Director, Professional & Organizational Development. Performs all duties in an independent manner.

 

SUPERVISION GIVEN

 

Supervises the activities of the Professional & Organizational Development and Pastoral & Spiritual Care staff.
