Major Duties

Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer

This pediatric cardiac sonographer position requires a highly skilled sonographer who can independently produce optimal diagnostic results.  This sonographer should be able to use a variety of ultrasound eqiupment and proficiently follow a variety of protocols.  They should have an advanced knowledge level of cardiac ultrasound as well as a strong foundation of cardiac anatomy and physiology.  They will act as a resource for physicians and staff, as well as resident and students.

Completion of a formal cardiac ultrasound program and BCLS is required.  Prefer two years clinical cardiac ultrasound experience.  The ideal candidate will also have experience in pediatrics.

ARDMS registry in pediatric echo is required within 2 years.

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides high quality technical neurodiagnostic ultrasound services appropriate to pediatric patients that contribute to positive patient outcome.  Maintains cooperative working relationships with other departments and members of the medical system.  Educates patients and significant others in a manner to assure understanding.  Ensures the continuous delivery of high quality patient care by consistently seeking new knowledge and application of skills obtained.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Completion of an Allied Health Training Program in Diagnostic Ultrasound with an Associate's degree required.  Completion of a correlative Allied Health Program with successful completion of a post graduate course in Neuroultrasound or Bachelor's degree in a related field may be considered.  One year clinical ultrasound experience preferred.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:

Registration with the Registry of Vascular Technologists (RVT) or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) within 18 months of employment.  Current CPR certification required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.   Performs and/or assists in performing quality neurovascular sonography procedures.
2.   Obtains appropriate data management and documentation and utilizes hospital resources appropriately.
3.   Communicates in an effective manner to provide efficient and quality services with high customer satisfaction.
4.   Participates in educational activities to enhance patient care and quality.
5.   Performs appropriate equipment management including operations and maintenance.
6.   Utilizes appropriate competencies, guidelines and environment for safe patient care.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to communicate on a professional level with physicians, nurses, and other ancillary professional staff when discussing neuroultrasound technology and related areas
Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with public, patients, physicians, and other medical center staff

Occasional exposure to inhalation GradeO2

Occasional stress due to multiple calls and inquiries
Required personal protective equipment:  eye and face protection, gown, mask, lab coat, sterile and nonsterile gloves, shoe covers.
