Senior Development Officer
Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Development Officer serves as a fundraiser who builds philanthropic support for the mission and vision of the Mount Nittany Health System and who leads strategies to build the donor pipeline for the Foundation. The Senior Development Officer will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors capable of making gifts in the five to seven figure range and will establish solicitation strategies for donors at lower gift levels, with a priority to build the donor pipeline.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree
Experience:
- A minimum of five years related experience with a track record of success in securing major gifts and meeting fundraising goals.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills, with a particular sensitivity to sophisticated, high-net worth audiences.
- Impeccable writing and presentation skills and the ability to utilize various technologies.
- Dedication to and understanding of the skills required to build relationships with diverse communities.
- Commitment to professional development, learning, and being mentored.
- Conducts business in a professional and cordial manner that upholds the integrity and reputation of Mount Nittany Health.
License/Certification/Registration:
- Valid Driver’s license.

Receives minimal supervision from the Executive Director, Foundation.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plans and implements strategies for donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
- Raises major gifts through pledges, outright gifts or planned gifts.
- Cultivates donors to match the needs of Mount Nittany Health System with interests of prospective donors.
- Collaborates with the Mount Nittany Health Foundation Executive Director and Foundation staff on prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
- Manages a portfolio of gift prospects
- Create and implement moves management plans for all assigned pro
- Oversees pipeline development programs and strategies
- Leads and promotes Employee Giving Program across Mount Nittany Health, including meetings with “Physician Champions” to help enlist others to engage with the Foundation through philanthropy and service
- Solicits donors for annual fund-level gifts, including increased annual gifts and five-year pledge commitments in support of Foundation fundraising efforts
- Secures new, renewed, and increased funding from individuals through online, direct mail, and digital annual appeals
- In collaboration with the Foundation staff, builds and administers a robust Grateful Patient Program, including marketing, solicitation, and stewardship strategies
- Effectively communicates the mission and vision of Mount Nittany Health and promotes a comprehensive understanding of the philanthropic priorities of the health system
- Assists event staff in all Foundation related events as needed including
- Mount Nittany Health Foundation Charity Ball and Golf Classic
- Cultivation and Stewardship related events
