Position Summary: The Senior Accountant primary focus is proper recording of journal entries and account reconciliations for timely and accurate reporting of monthly financial statements as well as reports to management for financial decision support. The individual will prepare account analysis and will be heavily involved with the annual audit. This position is a member of a team of accountants that will be responsible for achieving the goals of the Finance Department and the Director of Accounting. All Accountants assist the Supervisor as well as the Director of Accounting as needed and may be assigned special projects.
This Senior position in particular also requires a deep understanding of payroll, as they will work closely with the Payroll Supervisor to provide backup support on reporting and filing requirements. The Senior Accountant interacts with many departments and employees. Individual must express professionalism in both written and oral communication and have a strong customer service base.
1. Must be able to analyze the general ledger and postings, prepare and evaluate journal entries, and perform full reconciliation of required accounts.
2. Must be familiar with accounting systems, interfaces, financial reports, and how to identify and correct problems in the general ledger and statements.
3. Experience in Excel and Word is required.
4. Lawson and Allscripts software application knowledge would be helpful.
5. Willingness to be a part of a team environment is required.
6. Goal setting is performed under the direction of the Supervisor as well as the Director of Accounting.
7. The Senior Accountant is expected to always exercise good judgment, show initiative, and be able to meet the goals and objectives of the position and team.
8. The Senior Accountant must keep the Supervisor of Accounting informed on the status of assigned responsibilities.
BS in Accounting with minimum 5 years relevant work experience preferably in a healthcare finance environment.
Proficient with Windows based applications with emphasis on spreadsheets.
