Job Description

Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital

Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital is looking for a full time Clinical Documentation Specialist to facilitate improvement in the overall quality, completeness, and accuracy of clinical documentation.  Concurrently reviews inpatient medical records for proper documentation. Facilitates and obtains appropriate physician documentation by communicating with clinicians and physicians. Documents any clinical conditions or procedures to support the appropriate severity of illness, expected risk of mortality, and complexity of care of the patient. Educates members of the patient care team regarding documentation guidelines, including attending physicians, health practitioners, nursing, and case management.

CDI implementation related to the concurrent review of the clinical documentation in the inpatient medical record.  The goal of the CDS is to assess the accuracy, specificity, and completeness of provider clinical documentation, and to ensure that the documentation explicitly identifies all clinical findings and conditions present at the time of service.

This position collaborates with providers and other healthcare team members to make improvements that result in accurate, comprehensive documentation that reflects completely, the clinical treatment, decisions, and diagnoses for the patient.  Utilizing clinical expertise and clinical documentation improvement practices and facility specific tools for best practice and compliance with the mission/philosophy, standards, goals and core values of LifePoint.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

License:

  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS, RN or combination thereof preferred.
  • Certified Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist (CCDS) or Certified Documentation Improvement Specialist (CDIS) preferred

Experience:

  • Prior experience in case management, clinical documentation improvement, and/or coding accuracy preferred.

Minimum of three years’ experience in a clinical role in an acute care hospital setting.

Must be a self-starter who is extremely organized and self-directed, must be able to work without supervision
