Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Prepare patients for examinations, explain procedures and respond to patient questions. Perform diagnostic procedures for patients as ordered by physicians.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a specialized training program in Radiological Technology by approved the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Experience:
- One year of experience preferred performing radiological procedures in a hospital, clinic or physician’s office.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
- Knowledge of radiologic equipment and procedures and safety hazards common to radiology including equipment, body mechanics and patient movement.
- Ability to speak clearly and communicate effectively and to read, understand and follow written and verbal instructions and procedures.
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot equipment problems and perform simple adjustments.
License/Certification/Registration:
- Registered with the ARRT in Radiology.
- Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.

Receives general supervision from the Practice Manager.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Greet patients and obtain the physician’s x-ray/bone density study from them.
- Retrieve and verify file data on return patients.
- Obtain and document patient histories.
- Prepare patients for examinations, position patients and adjust equipment following established procedures.
- Explain procedures to patients and respond to patient’s questions.
- Operate radiologic equipment following prescribed procedures and safety standards.
- Examine radiologic film/bone density report print outs for properties such as density and contrast, definition, magnification and distortion.
- Develop and process radiologic digital images and transmit to radiologists for reading and interpretation.
- Maintain accurate records of examinations performed.
- Accept patient telephone calls and respond to questions.
- Maintain radiologic equipment, examination rooms and stock of necessary medical and radiologic supplies.
- Perform other duties as required.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
