The Fargo VA Health Care System is a Level 2 Medical Center and a member of Veterans Integrated Service Network 23. This facility combines a 39 bed medical facility along with a 38 bed Community Living Center providing transitional care, both accredited by The Joint Commission. The Fargo VA Health Care System provides a wide spectrum of primary and tertiary acute and extended care inpatient and outpatient activities in an academic setting. Due to the growing veteran population in our service area, nine Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) have been established with the tenth planned for opening in late 2013. The Fargo VA Health Care System has an active research program and has a successful affiliation with the University of North Dakota School of Medicine.

DUTIES:

Position Overview:

This position will provide consultation services to all primary care teams to address a wide range of psychiatric care. Work closely with primary care providers to enhance the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with psychiatric needs. Perform a systematic, planned treatment that uses evidence based and pharmacological interventions and has, as its goals, the improvement of interpersonal functioning, changes in maladaptive behavior patterns, reduction in psychotic symptoms and the alleviation of psychic pain. This will be done in face-to-face encounters or via Telemental health. An on-call rotation with other Psychiatrists covering Inpatient services will also be included.

Work Schedule:

  • 8:00am - 4:30pm, Extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Telework is not authorized for this position.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • US citizenship and English language proficiency
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
  • Background/suitability investigation
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d)

Physical Requirements: A pre-employment physical is required. The examination will be concerned with the mental and physical ability of the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment and will include requisite laboratory and other screening as required by Federal regulatory agencies.
