Position Objective:

The primary role of the Bariatric Coordinator is coordination of care for bariatric surgery patients. This includes bariatric program management, patient and staff education, as well as the oversight of multidisciplinary teams and acting as the liaison between the hospital and surgical practice. In addition, the position will be responsible for assisting in establishment of Doctor’s Community Hospital as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence (BSCOE) and maintaining ongoing compliance.

  • Ability to operate various office machines, computers, software packages, and patient therapeutic equipment and/or machines required.
  • Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills necessary in order to facilitate a multidisciplinary bariatric team, chair meetings, interview and evaluate others, and maintain excellent oral/written communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to deal effectively with physicians and other health care team members when resolving problems/issues.
  • Provides education and counsel appropriate to the medical needs of the patient.
  • Maintains current licensure and continuing medical education credits as required by Maryland State Law.
  • Communicates treatment / therapy progress with individuals who have the responsibility or control in patient care intervention.
  • Refers patients to appropriate licensed physician or other health care provider as condition or circumstances warrant.
  • Strong analytical skills necessary to be able to research information, compile statistics, computerized data entry, retrieval, reporting, and be able to provide input into development of policies and procedures, prepare monthly performance improvement reports, maintain or monitor budget and expense reports, and so forth.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant school

Required License/Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice in the State of Maryland and Board Certified

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Demands –

Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
