Job Description

Haywood Regional Medical Center

Interviews patients and/or caregivers to collect information regarding current home medications.

Utilizes designated computer applications to enter information collected in interviews.

Utilizes appropriate equipment/accessories to collect information from outside sources (physician offices, retail pharmacies, family members) regarding home medications.

Contacts and communicates with other care providers (pharmacists, nurses, physicians, etc.) to facilitate the processing of home medication information.

Processes medication orders under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, taking the age, weight and gender of the patient into account. Obvious irregularities (consistent with expected medication knowledge) are called to the attention of the pharmacist.

Prepares medications for delivery to the proper areas at scheduled times.

Assists with stocking and maintaining inventory at proper levels.

Prepares IV admixtures using aseptic technique and consistent with established policies and procedures.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Minimum Education
Pharmacy Technician Associate's Degree preferred

Minimum Work Experience
Previous Pharmacy Technician experience required.

Required Skills
Certifications:
Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the NC Board of Pharmacy required within 30 days of employment.
Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) preferred.

Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Thorough knowledge of pharmaceutical products, generic names, routes of administration, dosage forms, etc.

Working knowledge of medical abbreviations, medical terminology and disease states.
