Major Duties

Pharmacy Buyer/Expeditor - Oncology Service Line

SCHEDULE: 1st shift, normally 8a-5p, Mon-Fri, 40 hours weekly.

JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is accountable for all medications and inventory purchasing for pharmacy within the oncology service line, including drug replacement/recovery inventory management. Position will work with oncology pharmacy operational leaders and each oncology pharmacy location to provide drug replacement, assist with waste recovery efforts, utilize central pharmacy manager to optimize par levels, and identify other cost savings opportunities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  

  • Bachelor's degree or one year of commensurate experience preferred.
  • Purchasing and customer service experience preferred.
  • Five years hospital pharmacy technician experience with experience in oncology and supply chain.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

  • Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
  • Identifies potential sources of supply. Obtains product specifications from appropriate sources and determines product availability and pricing information.
  • Purchases pharmaceuticals, fluids and supplies and maintains appropriate inventory levels. Responsible for purchasing on appropriate accounts.
  • Ensures quality customer service.
  • Accountable for accuracy of specifications for items purchased.
  • Accountable for correcting inaccurate invoices referred by Accounts Payable.
  • Contributes to department operations and goals.
  • Supports oncology operational leaders and Director of Pharmacy in daily work activities.
  • Accountable for accurate record keeping and departmental reporting.
  • Accountable for keeping an up-to-date understanding of current regulations and approval authority guidelines.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact with vendors to ensure timely delivery of purchases and to resolve any discrepancies related to acquisition, shipment, and/or payment.
  • Manages the processes for outdated and recalled medications.
