Coordinates and oversees daily activities between the OR and Sterile Processing Department (SPD) to facilitate efficient case flow. Responsible for assisting in projects and process improvement initiatives. Promotes customer service/satisfaction through
training, education, and problem resolution.
- High School Diploma or GED General Studies Required
- Associates in an appropriate discipline Preferred
Certifications and Licensures:
- Certification in sterile processing/central sterile from CBSPD or IAHCSMM Required*
- Must successfully complete the certification within one (1) year from date of hire.
- If certification in sterile processing/central sterile from CBSPD or IAHCSMM: Two (2) years of relevant experience required.
- If no certification at time of hire: Three (3) years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technologist required.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Requires thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and is capable of learning software programs and/or hardware as needed.

Job Specific Duties
OR Sterile Processing Support
Ensures continuity and quality of surgical procedures by providing support services in the operating room. Assists the operating room staff in preparing the O.R. suite for surgery by assisting in instrument and case cart completion. Transports sterilized instrumentation to the operating rooms as needed. Assists in removing soiled or un-sterile instrumentation and scopes from the operating room.
Always communicates in a professional manner to all hospital staff and company employees. Communicates with OR staff prior to the cases to ascertain specific instrument and supply needs and ensures these items are available. Communicates with OR and
SPD leadership on preference card changes. Provides daily communication with OR management and SPD leadership on instrument needs turn overs, and frictions. Follows chain of command within hospital regarding problems or issues to ensure proper communication and resolution. Resolves issues or offers alternatives when necessary.
Ensures quality of care by cleaning, and maintaining hospital instrumentation by following manufacturers IFUs per contract deliverables. Collects and transports appropriate instruments to the designated cleaning area as needed. Verifies that required
instrumentation has been sterilized and is available for next-day, call or weekend cases. Places instrumentation in appropriate containers using correct count sheet.
Completes documentation as required for inventory/equipment requests, instrument sets, etc. Meets and works with Operating Room staff and surgeons.
Performs daily required audits to include Case cart audits, Room visits for OR frictions, Post case cart audits, and Tray Audits.
Knowledge of Instrumentation
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the application/use of instrumentation. Reports broken instrumentation to appropriate member of management.
Performs special projects in the OR and SPD as needed.
Assists in orientation of new employees to each work area and overall department orientation
Willingly accepts assignments and performs effectively on a daily basis. Shares knowledge with co-workers through open communication and continuous upgrading of skills.
