SOVAH Health Martinsville is a 237-bed, full service, acute-care community hospital. Memorial Hospital continues to grow and improve its health care services to meet the changing needs of the community. Recent capital improvements include a new $2.7 million MRI, a $1.1 million 16-slice CT scanner and a $1.2 million ambulatory surgery center. The hospital recently completed an expansive renovation project designed to separate inpatient and outpatient services, improve the flow of people in the hospital, and provide more convenient and efficient services to patients. The state-of-the-art Ravenel Oncology Center, affiliated with Duke University, and the Julius Hermes Breast Care Center are recent additions, as well as a Hyperbaric/Wound Care Center and Sleep Lab. Job Description

SOVAH Health - Martinsville

As supervised and delegated by a registered nurse, provides direct patient care in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education
Current licensure as Licensed Practical Nurse from the Virginia State Board of Nursing.

Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.Verbal ability to present information and ideas related to nursing theory and practice. Ability to accept responsibility and accountability to perform delegated aspects of the nursing process. Requires the cognitive ability and practical ability to provide nursing care appropriate to the patient population assigned, considering patient age and diagnosis with full implementation of the nursing process to include Assessment/Reassessment, Nursing Diagnosis, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation.

Required Skills
Certifications:
BLS certification – if not current, training required.
ACLS certification- if experience, training required within 3 months; if inexperienced, training required within 6 months.
PALS certification - required within six months of hire, within one year for new graduates.

Required Skills
Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients and/or equipment, manual and finger dexterity and eye hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive period of time. May require lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. May require frequent bending, squatting and kneeling. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires ability to work under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Minimum Work Experience
Previous experience in acute care hospital setting preferred.
Requirements will include successful completion of orientation checklist, pharmacology exam, and skills/credentials/competency requirements of specific unit.
