DUTIES:
Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Position Description Title/PD#: Health Technician (Optometry), #035210.
Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are notauthorized for this position.
Duties: Assist vision care providers in providing the highest possible level of services to patients. Performs routine clinical tasks, including (but not limited to) assisting in take patient history for review by doctor, verify spectacle prescription data, measure visual acuity, measure corneal curvature, assess color vision, and use auto-refractor to determine patient's spectacle prescription.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least a GS-5.

1. Knowledge and skill involved in performing initial patient screening in an eye clinic to include current instruments for patient intake.
2. Knowledge and skill of the concepts, principles and operation of modern ophthalmic diagnostic instruments. Examples would include Ocular Coherence Tomography, Manual and Automated Visual field instruments, IOLMaster, Ocular photography, Corneal topography and other instruments that could be expected to be found in Ophthalmology/Optometry Clinics.
3. Knowledge of the eye, eye terminology, basic visual optics, and eye conditions.
4. Ability to plan effectively, set priorities and coordinate activities in a clinical setting.
5. Skill in operation of visual field instruments.

Physical Requirements: No physical requirements. Wheelchair veterans who can transfer are offered an arm in transferring from wheelchair to eye chair. Most times wheelchair is moved to eye equipment and equipment is powered up or down.
