We are part of a select group of hospitals in the country who have a unit dedicated to caring for VV ECMO patients and is 1:1 staffed with critical care nurses who specialize in this advanced care using the latest technologies in respiratory support.
One of 14 units in the world renowned R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. Challenging care of the most critically ill patients in Maryland and surrounding areas who have sustained multiple traumatic injuries or a severe life-threatening illness. Patients are transitioned to the LRU for VV-ECMO intervention support. Some of our interdisciplinary team includes nurses, physicians, providers, physical/occupational therapists, respiratory therapists and perfusion.
The unit offers comprehensive treatment for patients with acute respiratory failure and multisystem organ dysfunction. As a nurse in the LRU, you will care for a variety of patients commonly including: trauma patients, pre-transplant, ARDS, and multi-organ failure. Nurses are responsible for monitoring advanced hemodynamics, continuous renal replacement therapy, and titration of multiple intravenous medications. Initial lung rest management of these patients includes proning, ventilatory support, and titration of intravenous sedation and neuromuscular blockade. Moving out of the acute phase towards recovery, nursing works very closely with physical/occupational therapy to safely mobilize and ambulate these patients.
For this unique opportunity, we are seeking nurses with two (or more) years of ICU experience who have a desire to work in a large Academic Medical Center and be a part of such a challenging and cutting edge unit. As a Magnet facility, we strive to provide better care using evidence based practice techniques to advance our patients through their plan of care. Increasing outcomes and progression for our patients is our ultimate goal and we are seeking nurses who wish to advance their patients and careers with the same goals.
