What You Will Do:

Under supervision operates and maintains the central plant and related system.

 Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by

people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

  1. Operates boilers, chillers, pumps, and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  2. Utilizes computer system to monitor, adjust, graph, and regulate hospital
    environment support equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  3. Maintains work areas in compliance with safety, sanitation and security standards at all times.
  4. Reports injuries and accidents in accordance with departmental procedures.
  5. Performs preventive maintenance on central plant and auxiliary equipment.
  6. Performs maintenance to hospital buildings and equipment to ensure safe operation.
  7. Maintains power plant and associated area in a clean and orderly manner.
  8. Paints power plant and equipment
  9. Inspects, calibrates, adjusts, lubricates, repairs or replaces components.
  10. Makes rounds of plant and machine rooms and keeps accurate logs of readings.
  11. Logs, calculates, and reviews operating logs and efficiencies.
  12. Maintains records of repairs and preventive maintenance as required.
  13. Estimates time and material costs of various projects.
  14. Cleans and maintains tools and equipment.
  15. Keeps supervisors informed of project status.
  16. Maintains work areas so that they are in compliance with safety, sanitation and security standards at all times.
  17. Reports injuries and accidents in accordance with departmental procedures.

What You Need to Be Successful:

  • Requires ability to obtain a current Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineers license within sixty (60) days of hire.
  • Maryland driver’s license in good standing.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • Two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of central utility system equipment
  • Highly knowledgeable and possesses proficient technical skills in the operation of large institutional capacity l main feeders and switchgear.
  • Good knowledge of emergency power generators and emergency power distribution.
  • Ability to read complex technical equipment operation manuals.
  • Skill in the use and care of hand and power tools required by the work.
  • Knowledge of and observes all safety precautions.
  • Good verbal communication skills are required to work with management and clinical staff and external vendors.
  • Good writing skills to write deficiency reports on equipment and maintain required documentation.
