Summary

Position Summary

The Patient Educator, under the direction of the Director of CV Services, utilizes knowledge and skills to provide direct age specific and culturally appropriate clinical education to heart patients, their families, communities, employees, corporations, etc. regarding heart disease and other related diseases.  The Patient Educator serves as a clinical resource and participates in patient, community and staff education.

Minimum Requirements:

Education

  • BSN/ Graduate of an approved Nursing Program

Experience

  • 1-2 years’ experience in heart disease field

License/Registration/Certifications   

  • SC Registered Nurse License
  • BLS

Preferred Requirements:

Preferred Education

  • MSN

Preferred Experience

  • 4-5 years in heart disease field
  • Critical Care Experience

Preferred License/Registration/Certifications        

  • ACLS

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assesses educational needs to customers and directs customers to appropriate materials.
  • Trains internal and external customers to use Joe R. Utley HRC equipment.
  • Serves as clinical resource to patients, families, and community.
  • Serves as liaison between Joe R. Utley HRC and hospital departments, physician offices and other agencies.
  • Maintains monthly activity report of educational offerings, screenings, presentations.
  • Provides and maintains monthly calendar of events of Joe R. Utley HRC.
  • Provides education to patients and their families, communities, and other outside agencies.
  • Collaborates with other agencies to participate in risk factor reduction programs.
  • Schedules appointments as directed according to patient needs.
  • Other Duties as Assigned
