Your Job:

The Director of Grant Writing & Stewardship prepares Methodist Health System Foundation's requests/grants for funding with corporate, community, and private foundations. The position leads the Foundation's donor stewardship efforts and facilitates internal and external partners in project/program case statements.

Your Job Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree required
  • 5-7 years of non-profit experience in development grant writing and/or related project experience; healthcare experience preferred
  • Ability to function as a collaborative member of a team and a self-starter who requires minimal supervision
  • Extensive experience in all areas of fundraising and moves management from prospect identification, cultivation and stewardship with expertise in foundation and corporate relations
  • Ability to communicate effectively to potential donors (individuals, corporations, foundations) the mission of MHS and how specific projects are additive/critical to our mission
  • The ability to envision and successfully implement a foundation and corporate relations initiative, secure buy-in from all levels of leadership
  • Experience in identifying and developing foundation gift opportunities that align with Foundation mission, goals and strategies.
  • Ability to engage a variety of stakeholder groups, including: peers, health system staff and executives, volunteers, board members, community philanthropic leaders, physicians, and clinical leader
  • Ability to communicate the impact/vision of the health system's programs
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, writing and computer skills (Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel) to effectively promote the Foundation and its program's vision.
  • Ability to make good decisions based on data analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to deal with a variety of personalities with calm professionalism.
  • Knowledge of both the Dallas and Fort Worth philanthropic markets a plus

Your Job Responsibilities:

  • Writes all Foundation Grants.  Responsible for writing, compilation and submission of all grant applications to support Methodist Health System. Identifies new Foundation resources with and without restrictions.  Researches, provides information and makes recommendations to Foundation executives on funding opportunities for community, private and corporate foundations, and governmental agencies in Dallas, Tarrant Counties, and throughout the United States. Maintains portfolio of foundations and corporations to support all areas of need within Methodist Health System Foundation, e.g. requests for annual, program, capital, endowment and scholarship fundraising.
  • Leads Foundation efforts to build lasting engagements with a focus on growing capacity in giving and overall Foundation portfolio with funders that provide larger dollar grants.
  • Key Stewardship officer—responsible for all donor “thank-yous” and official stewardship reports. Maintains effective communication with institutional donors to enhance cultivation and stewardship; including writing thank-you letters, submitting stewardship reports, site visits, newsletter articles and personal invitations to events. Responsible for all stewardship activities, including: preparing all formal reports to funders in a timely manner; providing informal reports to donors, as appropriate; and assisting in campaign-related stewardship activities.
  • Maintains and updates project/programs report for the Foundation.  Works with hospital staff to identify internal funding needs and opportunities and match with possible funding opportunities. Synthesizes clinical and program information into application narratives to create compelling funding proposals. Works with health system employees at all levels to identify new and existing programs that could benefit from philanthropic support. Assists program staff in the system-level approval process for new programs. Also assists program staff with preparation for funding presentations. This may include tours, PowerPoint presentations, and other speaking engagements. Leads a monthly staff meeting to help update all Foundation team members on current activities, including new and existing program developments, changes to program contact information, campaign progress, and prospect development
  • Serves as primary case statement writer.
  • Maintains grants calendar.  Leads new Foundation engagement program: Develops a comprehensive plan to secure support from corporations, foundations and governmental entities, which includes maintaining a grants calendar, and implementing a moves' management system for contribution opportunities.
  • Works with the MHS Foundation President, Vice President, Development and members of the Board of Directors on corporate and foundation donor identification, cultivation and solicitation activity. Works with all members of the Foundation team to bolster Board Member engagement in grant solicitation activities. Collaborates closely with Foundation staff to coordinate a donor-centric approach to foundation/corporate donation opportunities for all programs and projects; including but not limited to consulting, editing and reviewing proposals for success.
  • Responsible to track all grant-related and stewardship activities in Raiser’s Edge database. Works closely with Prospect Research Specialist to track institutional prospects in iWave database. Program Development Activities: Responsible to keep detailed records of fundraising activities of Methodist Health System Foundation
