The University of Maryland Medical Center is seeking a Cytotechnologist in the Cytopathology Laboratory with a desire to join our world-class team!
The Cytotechnologist is an exciting position opportunity for someone who is looking to work with general supervision, performs microscopic evaluation of cellular material from all body sites to determine normal and abnormal cellular changes including but not limited to malignant neoplasms, precancerous lesions, infectious agents and inflammatory processes. Possess the technical skills required for FNA assistance and a wide variety of cytological specimen preparations including liquid based preparation. Have a basic knowledge of contemporary procedures and technologies. Maintains proper records and utilizes independent judgment. Performs complex analyses on a variety of sample types. Understands theories and principles involved in the performance of all procedures. May be required to supervise and teach others. Responsible for quality, efficiency and safety in the performance of laboratory functions. Troubleshoots and resolves problems and documents corrective actions. Assists with development and resolves problems and documents corrective actions. Assists with development and modification of procedures and assumes additional responsibilities when appropriate.

What You Need to Be Successful:
Baccalaureate degree in Cytotechnology, Basic Sciences or other related field. If degree is in an allied field of study, completion of an accredited cytology program is required; or Certification in Cytotechnology by a certification agency approved by the American Society of Clinical Pathology.
ASCP certification and a minimum of 1-year experience preferred. Eligibility for certification in cytotechnology by American Society of Clinical Pathology will be considered.
