JOB SUMMARY:  The Nursing Assistant provides patient care and treatment under the direction of professional staff.  The Nursing Assistant is responsible for working as a team player, on both the nursing unit and in other areas of the hospital assisting the patient, family and professional staff in achieving the patient’s goals.


Essential Accountabilities:


The Nursing Assistant is accountable for the following areas:


  1. Demonstrates commitment to patient care and the patient care team.
  2. Understands the philosophy of the Department of Nursing, Department of Rehab Services and understands the philosophy of the hospital along with Hospital Policies and the Mission Statement.
  3. Has the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately to supervisors, staff and patients.
  4. Is able to identify resources available to meet the needs of the patients.
  5. Practices patient confidentiality and respect for patient rights utilizing HIPAA standards and the current organizations Patient Bill of Rights.
  6. Assists in unit based Quality Assessment activities.
  7. Must be able to exert 35 pounds of force while pulling, pushing or lifting patients and/or devices.




  1. Certified Nursing Assistant
  2. CPR Certification.


  1. High School education or equivalent.
  2. Graduate of Nursing Assistant training program.



  1. Certified Nursing Assistant in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.


  1. One year as a Nursing Assistant, preferred.

Conditions of Employment

Since this position will require the selected candidate to engage in regular contact with children in the form of care, guidance, supervision or training, you will be required to meet the requirements of the Child Protective Services Act,  including the Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check, the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare child abuse criminal background clearance, and an FBI finger print based federal criminal records check.  The selected candidate will not be allowed to commence working until all three (3) are completed satisfactorily.
