JOB SUMMARY

Promotes environmental protection by maintaining healthy and safe medical facilities for employees and visitors. Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas to help prevent infections from spreading to patients and visitors from building surfaces, fixtures and furnishings. Follows up on work assignments in absence of EVS Management.  Orders and distributes supplies and linen.  Schedules and assigns job assignments to EVS Technicians as well as any training needed. Performs quality inspections and patient interviews. Interacts with visitors, patients, and other departments.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum: Two years’ EVS experience and 120 hours of hard surface experience and 60 hours’ carpet care experience.  No current CAFs.
  • Must complete by the January following hire date:  EVS Team Leader Certification, Certification of the competency for the Emergency department and Operating Room Cleaning, Certification in all floor care.

SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prioritizes assignments to complete work in a timely manner

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. In the absence of the EVS management these duties are carried out:  Carrying the ascom and/or pager. Representing EVS in the daily safety huddles of the facility and offsite clinics.  Disbursing staff in the need of any emergency situation for the facility or offsite clinics. Troubleshoot complaints and service calls.  Document employee disciplinary issues. Have direct communication with Nursing leadership in the facility and outside clinics.
  2. Performs complete cleaning of assigned areas to include, but not limited to: dusting and sanitizing furniture, equipment, mirrors and fixtures; washing windows, walls, ceilings, vents and light fixtures; sweeping, scrubbing and refinishing floors; vacuuming and shampooing carpet; changing cubicle curtains and drapes, re-stocking restrooms; replacing light bulbs; and reporting repairs.
  3. Cleaning and disinfecting of patient areas and rooms.  Cleaning and disinfecting of isolation rooms. Documenting cleaning actions, noting areas requiring additional care of monitoring.  Informing supervisor of incomplete work.
  4. Training of EVS Technicians both new and existing.  Help in overseeing the completion of the Healthstream annual training as needed.
  5. Inspecting and releasing cleaned rooms to Admissions. Monitoring Wake One patient flow and communicating changes to the EVS Technicians. Stocking and distributing cleaning and linen supplies. Completing project work as assigned. Conducting routine follow-up EVS Technician training. Auditing of weekly eye wash stations. Performing patient interviews and quality inspections.
  6. Assuming responsibility for keeping informed about changes in policies and procedures.
  7. Heavy contact with cleaning chemicals, disinfecting agents, floor strippers and finishes. Majority of work is indoors but may assist with outdoor cleaning including parking lot, windows and roof. Proper use and mixing of chemicals.  Various cleaning activities may include the use of a ladder.
  8. Removes waste by collecting and transporting soiled linen, emptying trash containers, changing sharps containers, transporting solid and hazardous waste to compactors, recycling material, and emptying cigarette receptacles in smoking areas.
  9. Keeps equipment associated with the job, clean and orderly, and reports equipment failures or other mechanical issues to maintenance staff.  Verifies equipment is safe to use.
  10. Maintains safe working environment and provides quality service by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, infection control guidelines, and meeting departmental quality standards.  Proper handling of biomedical/hazardous waste.
  11. Attends all required in-service education and training classes including safety update programs to maintain technical knowledge.
  12. Consistently demonstrates the ability to meet time schedules and deadlines.  Communicates between shifts with supervisor and coworkers.
