Position Objective:

Provides therapeutic treatments to patients, pediatric to geriatric, according to departmental standards and only under the direction of an Occupational Therapist. Utilizes only methods and procedures within the scope of the practice of limited occupational therapy, and documents same according to departmental standards.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Conducts Occupational Therapy treatments, covering various diagnoses and units,  using a variety of appropriate treatment techniques and documents according to established departmental policies and procedures.
  2. Participates in departmental process improvement initiatives (huddle, metrics, and innovative ideas).
  3. Meets departmental productivity standards and completes productivity logs in a timely manner.
  4. Stays up to date on hospital policies, departmental requirements and process improvement initiatives by reading all correspondence (meeting minutes, weekly updates, etc) and participating in huddles.  Responds to communication and requests in a timely fashion.
  5. Participates in quality and patient safety initiatives, engaging in excellent customer service practices, including but not limited to following ICARE.  Also consults and serves as a resource for physicians, nursing staff, and other clinicians to increase knowledge of Occupational Therapy and to identify the need for Occupational Therapy services for patients of all ages.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • Associates Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapist Assistant Program.
  • Previous experience required; previous acute care experience preferred.

Required License/Certifications:

  • Current license to practice limited Occupational Therapy by the Maryland Board of Occupational Therapy Practice.
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS CPR certification.

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Demands – Heavy lifting

Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
