Position Summary

Cath lab Radiologic Technologist I uses a variety of specialized equipment in assisting the physician in the performance of all invasive procedures resulting in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. Assists physician with routine to complex invasive diagnostic and therapeutic cardiovascular and peripheral procedures. Competent in sterile technique in assisting physicians with all procedures, which includes scrubbing, circulating, fluoroscopy, documenting cases, hemodynamic and dysrhythmia monitoring. Must demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology. Cardiac Cath Lab Radiology Technologist professionals are vital members of a multidisciplinary team that forms a core of highly trained health care professionals, who each bring expertise to the area of patient care and by also, performing emergent procedures.

Primary Accountability

Assists physicians during all procedures while imaging patient and scrubbing. Prepares and maintains sterile field. Scrubs in for handling of guide wires, catheters, stents, administering contrast and intravascular/intracoronary medications. Assists physicians with arteriograms/catheterizations, permanent pacemaker implantations, implantable cardiac defibrillators, diagnostic and interventional (peripheral and coronary), thrombolytic therapy, electrophysiology, endovascular and structural heart procedures.

Other procedures include; but not limited to:

· Airway management, arm cases, heart biopsy, blood gas samples, defibrillation, perform CPR, left and right heart caths, hemodynamic interpretation of waveforms and pressures, power injector set-up and use, angioplasty and stent in both coronary and peripheral, rotational atherectomy, intravascular ultrasound, fractional flow reserve, perform manual and mechanical hemostasis (arterial and venous) including vascular closure devices, ultrasound for venous and arterial access, intracoronary ultrasound, left ventricular assist devices set-up and insertion, intra-aortic balloon pump set-up and insertion.

Performs related radiographic/fluoroscopic imaging techniques and positioning of patients for diagnosis and treatment while ensuring safety. Applies principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patient, self and others. Maintains images; which may include stenosis analysis, formatting, and processing.

Monitors and records patient’s condition, and procedures’ progress in hemodynamic charting system. Retrieves, reviews and documents patient data in electronic health records. Hemodynamics and dysrhythmia monitoring in all procedures. Perform calculations of hemodynamic and physiological test results.

Circulates for all procedures while monitoring/charting and gathering of supplies needed for all routine and emergent cases. Circulating also includes set-up of equipment and ensuring patient safety and comfort.

Audits quality control monitoring, quality assurance checks on equipment as assigned and performance improvement initiatives. (Daily, monthly and/or quarterly).

Maintains expertise knowledge and skills for the efficient operation of all specialized equipment which includes intravascular and cardiac ultrasound, fractional flow reserve, rotational atherectomy, thrombectomy, intra-aortic balloon pump, left ventricular assist devices, temporary pacemakers, contrast injectors, activated clotting time machine, 12 Lead ECG, O2 saturation machines and all point of care testing.

Prepares room and equipment, instructs patients, monitors patient's condition and provides routine/emergency patient care during procedures. Sustains quick turnaround times between procedures.

Takes call 24/7 to perform emergency procedures with a 20 minute response time.

Performs other duties as assigned which include but not limited to assist in preparing (IV insertion) and recovery of patients in both prep/recovery areas.

 

Minimum Education Required:

Associate’s Degree in Radiology Technology

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R)

BLS Certificate

ACLS Certificate, must obtain within 6 months of hire

Minimum Experience Required:

1 year of radiology technology experience
