Job Summary: The RT Cardiovascular EP Technologist reports to the Technical Director – Electrophysiology. This position is responsible for operation of Radiographic equipment, hemodynamic monitoring equipment, cardiac stimulators and CEID programmers and operational knowledge of sterile technique. 

 

 

 

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Applies concepts of sterile technique to setup procedural workspace.  Prepares and drapes patients using standard sterile technique.  Accurately monitors, assesses and documents hemodynamic measurements and procedural steps for all patient encounters. (essential)
  • Independently operates all Imaging equipment, devices & consoles necessary to support all clinical situations with appropriate training.  Able to independently troubleshoot all equipment issues. Identifies need for service calls and related communication/documentation.  Assists physician(s) in completion of all procedures.  Rotates on Electrophysiology call as scheduled. (essential)
  • Tests Radiographic imaging equipment for operational use and quality control.
  • Ensures that all documentation/images associated with the patient record are accurately labeled with correct PHI.  Responsible for ensuring that all images obtained during the procedure are correctly stored in PACS.  Assists in resolving PACS issues as directed.
  • Always applies the ALARA principle to maintain a safe environment for patients and all procedural staff during cases.  Monitors radiation exposure/time and advises the physician operator.  Documents fluoroscopy times doses accurately.  Ensures that all radiation badges are worn by staff and physicians. (essential)
  • Works in a collegial and collaborative relationship with other health professionals. Promotes the development of collaborative relationships with peers and team members by articulating practice issues in a clear, constructive manner.  Advocates for patient and co-worker safety at all times.
  • Ensures that all required equipment and supplies are available and prepared prior to the start of the procedure.  Ensures that all procedures rooms are stocked.  Assists in maintaining inventory and alerts inventory staff of critical needs. Tracks inventory usage into department tracking system as directed.
  • Actively and independently maintains all required training, licenses and certifications for role.
  • Supports BIDMC and department’s financial goals by ensuring that all documentation supports accurate billing.  Assists with billing/charging issues as needed.
  • Actively participates with colleagues to advance the technologists’ practice.  Supports colleagues through sharing expertise and clinical knowledge.
  • Serves as a preceptor to mentor incoming staff members and students.  Models professionalism, integrity, dedication to continuing education and excellent patient care.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of diversity and inclusion and practices in a way that is conducive to positive working relationship with all members of the team.
  • Applies universal precautions and proper infection control procedures when handling biohazard materials, properly marking and storing used equipment, supplies and instruments per hospital policy.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Radiologic Science required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Current and valid Massachusetts DPH state license in Radiography
  • Current and valid ARRT Certification in Radiography
  • 1-3 years of clinical experience in Electrophysiology, Cardiac Cath or Interventional Radiology required.
  • BLS and ACLS certification required
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other web-based applications.  May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.

  • Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
  • Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
  • Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

 

Age based Competencies: Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 - over.

Social/Environmental Requirements:

1. Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the work day do not compromise the work.

 

2. Work is varied every day and the employee needs to be adaptable to respond to these changes and use independent judgment and manage priorities.

 

3. Potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions

 

4. Several times a week:  Radiation, Exposure to dust,gas,fumes,steam,chemicals, Protective equipment required(Respirator,earplugs,mask,gloves,eyewear etc), Potential exposure to infectious diseases and/or airborne pathogens.

 

5. Health Care Status:  HCW1: Regular, day-to-day contact; both face-to-face and hands-on (having close contact within three feet for at least five minutes). Examples: physicians, clinical nurses, phlebotomist, medical assistants, PFT tech, and x-ray tech.- Health Care Worker Status may vary by department

 

 

Sensory Requirements:

Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Color vision/perception, Visual monotony, Visual clarity <3 feet, Hot/Cold, Sharp/Dull, Smell, Conversation, Monitoring Equipment, Telephone, Background Noise.

 

Physical Requirements:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus

 

This job requires constant Keyboard use,frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending neck, bending waist, Power Grasping using both hands, Fine Manipulation using one hand, Pushing/Pulling using both hands, Reaching-above shoulder height, Reaching-below shoulder height, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 10 lbs, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 25 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 10 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 25 lbs.There may be occasional Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 75 lbs, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to or more than 100 lbs.Rarely there may be Pushing items weighing up to 50 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 75 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to or more than 100 lbs, Push a wheelchair or wheeled bed containing a patient weighing up to 250 pounds, with assistance.
