Qualifications

 

Required

  • Minimum two years’ experience working in medical office as a surgery scheduler
  • Experience scheduling patient appointments in computerized appointment scheduling system
  • Excellent interpersonal skills which promote pleasant and effective communication with patients, staff and doctors
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain records in a clear and orderly manner at the direction of the Office Manager
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and diseases, as it applies to the eye
  • Familiarity with current patient billing practices
  • Sufficient computer keyboard skills to perform appointment scheduling, encountering, emailing, and other related computer tasks
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a systematic manner to maximize efficiency
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and to complete assignments in a timely manner
  • Knowledge of current governmental programs to ensure reimbursement
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to multitask effectively
  • Flexibility and adaptability given the dynamic nature of medicine and departmental needs
  • The ability to interact calmly and effectively with providers, staff, as well as patients with difficult personalities

Preferred:

  • Two years’ experience working in a medical teaching institution
  • Two years’ experience in ophthalmology practice setting
  • Familiarity with ophthalmology and related terminology
  • One year of experience with an electronic medical record (EMR)
