Qualifications
Certification of Nursing Assistant from a state approved program or demonstrated equivalency.
BLS from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
Ability to perform all physical requirements pertaining to delegated nursing, PT/OT, and RT assisted tasks.
Ability to speak clearly and distinctly using appropriate English vocabulary and grammar. Ability to understand oral and written English directives. Ability to read and write Standard English text. Ability to perform basic arithmetic computations (add, subtract, multiply and divide). Ability to accurately complete assigned tasks. Ability to organize and prioritize work to complete assignments in a timely fashion. Understanding of basic medical terminology and abbreviations preferred. Recent ward clerk and/or appropriate clerical experience in an acute hospital environment. Skill in transcribing doctor’s orders and medical information via manual or automated systems accurately, neatly and legibly. Skill in evaluating and reporting various kinds of emergent information pertinent to the functioning of an inpatient care unit. Ability to communicate on a one-to-one basis the duties of a ward secretary to float personnel and other staff members. Skill in responding to inquiries, imparting information and interpreting hospital policies and procedures to patients, public and staff in prompt and courteous manner, maintaining a professional manner. Ability to speak grammatically correct English clearly and distinctly to obtain and convey information to the public and hospital staff. Ability to read and write English to understand, interpret and record all ward clerk duties. Ability to perform with frequent interruption and distractions. Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are competing requirements and a heavy workload. Ability to pass an 8 hour computer data entry training course.
