POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for maintaining facilities and equipment in proper working conditions to provide a safe and compliant environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Inspects, tests, maintains, and repairs equipment and building systems. Keeps accurate records in accordance with regulatory standards.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

1. High school graduate or equivalent
   Technical training in electrical, plumbing, and mechanical preferred.

Experience:

1. General experience and background in the maintenance of public buildings and healthcare environments.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

1. Ability to complete basic repair and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
2. General mechanical capability to understand functioning of facility and equipment, with minimal supervision.
3. Dexterity needed to handle and use tools.
4. Ability to communicate and work well with others.

License/Certification/Registration:

1. Valid Driver’s license.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Assures the equipment, building, and grounds are kept in good repair. Occasionally oversees contract services but primarily responsible for conducting such work.
2. Conducts periodic inspections of the equipment and building according to policy. Repairs/replaces items as necessary.
3. Performs preventative maintenance checks, such as electrical safety, lubrication of equipment, HVAC controls, monitoring of medical gases, and boiler water quality, and inspecting and replacing filters and bulbs.
4. Manages preventative maintenance contracts when needed.
5. Inspects and maintains building equipment, such as heating, ventilating, and air conditioning, hot water heaters, steam boilers, emergency generators, central gas systems, etc.
6. Maintains records, drawings, operational manuals, and reports on equipment and facility.
7. Conducts and reports on fire drills according to Department of Health specifications; keeps records of attendance.
8. May assist with deliveries and receipts of incoming materials, general housekeeping functions, snow removal, and other duties as needed.
9. Oversees activities that ensure that no condition will exist which is conducive to harboring or breeding of insects, rodents, or vermin.
10. Utilizes supplies, equipment, and resources to contain costs without compromising patient care.
11. Follows dress code standards.
12. Travels to other health system locations to perform maintenance and repair of equipment and building systems and/or to oversee contracted services at those locations.
