Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for maintaining facilities and equipment in proper working conditions to provide a safe and compliant environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Inspects, tests, maintains, and repairs equipment and building systems. Keeps accurate records in accordance with regulatory standards.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- High school graduate or equivalent
Technical training in electrical, plumbing, and mechanical preferred.
Experience:
- General experience and background in the maintenance of public buildings and healthcare environments.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to complete basic repair and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- General mechanical capability to understand functioning of facility and equipment, with minimal supervision.
- Dexterity needed to handle and use tools.
- Ability to communicate and work well with others.
License/Certification/Registration:
- Valid Driver’s license.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assures the equipment, building, and grounds are kept in good repair. Occasionally oversees contract services but primarily responsible for conducting such work.
- Conducts periodic inspections of the equipment and building according to policy. Repairs/replaces items as necessary.
- Performs preventative maintenance checks, such as electrical safety, lubrication of equipment, HVAC controls, monitoring of medical gases, and boiler water quality, and inspecting and replacing filters and bulbs.
- Manages preventative maintenance contracts when needed.
- Inspects and maintains building equipment, such as heating, ventilating, and air conditioning, hot water heaters, steam boilers, emergency generators, central gas systems, etc.
- Maintains records, drawings, operational manuals, and reports on equipment and facility.
- Conducts and reports on fire drills according to Department of Health specifications; keeps records of attendance.
- May assist with deliveries and receipts of incoming materials, general housekeeping functions, snow removal, and other duties as needed.
- Oversees activities that ensure that no condition will exist which is conducive to harboring or breeding of insects, rodents, or vermin.
- Utilizes supplies, equipment, and resources to contain costs without compromising patient care.
- Follows dress code standards.
- Travels to other health system locations to perform maintenance and repair of equipment and building systems and/or to oversee contracted services at those locations.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
