This role will be working onsite at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. The schedule for this role will be 6am - 2:30pm, Monday through Friday.
Job Description:
Reporting to the Maintenance Director. This position manages and coordinates the activities of the personnel within the First Response Team. In addition, may oversee and manage personnel from other teams within maintenance during and relating to emergent situations such as flood response, power outages, etc.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Schedules, assigns and oversees work assignments for the members of the First Response Team
- Responsible to oversee ana manage the areas of all buildings that fall under the First Response Program.
- Responsible to be on call 24 hours per day for operational and emergent situations, such as flood emergencies, power outages, etc.
- Manage the First Response Program and support the departmental budget by seeking and implementing strategies to ensure efficicent operatons.
- Interview, evaluate and recommend personnel action regarding hiring, dismissal and disciplinary and other administrative functions.
- Maintain required records and reports regarding maintenance repairss and new installations for buildings and systems assigned to this team. (essential)
- Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: More than 7 Indirect Reports: None

Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED required, High School diploma or GED preferred.
- 5-8 years related work experience required and 3-5 years supervisory/management experience required
- Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Competencies:
- Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are guided by general instructions and practices requiring some interpretation. May make recommendations for solving problems of moderate complexity and importance.
- Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring, requiring staff input, innovative, creative, and Lean diagnostic techniques to resolve issues.
- Independence of Action: Ability to set goals and priorities for functional area. May make recommendations for department policies, practices and programs. Manager or Director provides broad guidance and overall direction.
- Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.
- Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
- Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
- Team Work: Ability to lead collaborative teams for larger projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas. Results have implications for the management and operations of multiple areas of the organization.
- Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Social/Environmental Requirements:
- Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the work day do not compromise the work.
- Work is varied every day and the employee needs to be adaptable to respond to these changes and use independent judgment and manage priorities.
- Potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions
- Several times a month: Extreme heat(above 100 degrees), Noise(need to shout to be heard), Vibration, Radiation, Exposure to dust,gas,fumes,steam,chemicals, Work outdoors(no effective protection from weather), Work at heights(such as scaffolding or ladders), Protective equipment required(Respirator,earplugs,mask,gloves,eyewear etc), Potential exposure to infectious diseases and/or airborne pathogens, Potential exposure to infectious diseases and/or bloodborne pathogens.
- Seasonally: Extreme cold(below 32 degrees).
- Health Care Status: HCW 3: Regular provision of service in a patient care area. Examples: Unit coordinators, lead coordinator/supervisor, patient liaison, nutrition services, environmental services, registrars, information desks, security, etc- Health Care Worker Status may vary by department
Sensory Requirements:
- Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Color vision/perception, Visual monotony, Visual clarity > 20 feet, Visual clarity <3 feet, Hot/Cold, Sharp/Dull, Smell, Conversation, Monitoring Equipment, Telephone, Background Noise.
Physical Requirements:
- Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.
- This job requires frequent sitting, walking, standing.There may be occasional bending neck, bending waist, twisting neck, twisting waist, maintain crouch for > 5 minutes, Repetition crouch(>2 times/minutes), climbing, maintain crouch for > 5 minutes, Repetition crouch(>2 times/minutes), Crawling, Reaching-above shoulder height, Reaching-below shoulder height, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 10 lbs, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 25 lbs, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 75 lbs, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to or more than 100 lbs.
