Overview

Performs daily clinical operations the Cardiac Rehab program including initiating, supervising, and monitoring exercise session. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to ensure positive patient outcomes.

 

Level 1- New Graduate Exercise Physiologist

Completes the requirements of the level 2 job description while supported by preceptor.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates proficiency in initiating, supervising, monitoring, evaluating, and documenting daily cardiac and vascular rehab therapy sessions.

 

Prioritizes situations within the department.

 

Recognizes artifacts and technical problems and eliminates probable sources.

Recognizes abnormalities and reports the findings to the nursing team and/or physician according to guidelines.

 

Recognizes emergency situations and initiates ACLS/BLS procedures.

 

Analyzes patient medical records to obtain history and necessary information for the exercise session. Identifies orthopedic, neurological, metabolic, or other conditions which require additional care planning for safe participation in an exercise regimen. Works with multidisciplinary team to develop individualized care plan to address the patients individualized needs.

 

Conducts initial fitness evaluations with clients and establishes safe and effective exercise prescriptions utilizing the FITT principles (Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type) as well as the AACVPR exercise standards.

 

Monitors client progress with exercise regimen and makes modification to the programs as necessary. Participates in providing patient education as well as support and motivation to the client.

 

Assists with planning post-program follow-up to assist in achievement of long-term goals.

 

Maintains appropriate departmental logs, files, and records.

 

Maintains confidentiality of patients, employees, and corporation related activities.

 

Maintains established hospital and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environment, and infection control.

 

Attends departmental meetings, participates in cardiac rehab related continued education, and participates in quality improvement activities.

 

Cultivates a collaborative and cooperative work environment within the department and multidisciplinary team. Communicate technical and patient care related information according to established processes and timelines.

 

Maintains equipment in working order and performs routine cleaning and preventative maintenance. Reports equipment malfunctions to the cardiac rehab leadership team.

 

Qualifications

New Graduate Exercise Physiologist

 

Proficient in dysrhythmia recognition.

 

Knowledge and experience with electronic health records.

 

Ability to withstand crisis situations.

Credentials

Essential:
* BLS - Basic Life Saving certification
* ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support

Education

Bachelor's degree required to include kinesiology, exercise physiology, and/or adult fitness and scientific principles related to fitness programing.
