Position Summary:
Audits the work of and trains Patient Account Representatives, participates in the interdepartmental Project Specialist team.

 

Job Requirement

 

Education/Experience:
Equivalent to high school graduation and two (2) years of experience in performing patient accounting.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Some positions may require the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid State of Nevada Notary Public Certification.

 

Additional and/or Preferred Position Requirements

Extensive knowledge of Commercial Hospital Managed Care contracts

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

 

Knowledge of:
Hospital office operations theories and principles; medical terminology and procedures; coding principles; legal terminology and requirements; insurance plans, governmental agencies and other social services; telephone etiquette; legal terminology and requirements; alternative pay sources; collection principles and techniques; department and hospital safety practices and policies; patient right; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Skill in:
Monitoring and assisting others with problem accounts; auditing the work of staff; resolving complex billing problems; accounting corrections and adjustments; the use of office equipment such as phones, copiers, facsimiles and adding machines; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard equipment, stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for extended periods of time, vision to read printed materials and VDT screens, speech and hearing to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
