JOB SUMMARY:
About the Agency
An all-service VA Medical Center in an all-season recreational getaway! Physiatristneeded in Augusta, Maine. Must-haves; unrestricted state medical license, qualified to diagnose, treat, and manage patients according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques.

VA Maine Healthcare System (formerly Togus VA Medical Center) proudly serves Maine's veterans at a main campus in Augusta or any of nine outpatient clinics. It's a modern 67 bed facility with general medical, surgical, intermediate and mental health beds, as well as 40 Skilled-Longer Stay beds, a 25-bed Dementia Unit, and a hospice unit. The oldest veterans' facility in the country (est. 1866), much of its 500+ acres is natural woodland habitat for wildlife. Salary to be determined by local Physician/Dentist Compensation Panel (commensurate with education, experience and qualifications). By law, U.S. Citizens will be given 1st preference but non-citizens will be considered in the absence of qualified citizens. Recruitment Incentive (or Relocation Incentive for a current VA employee) may be available.

DUTIES:
-
Responsibilities include providing
patient care in the Pain Management Setting which includes the clinical
outpatient area, and the inpatient setting as needed.

He/she provide physiatry services as
specified in his/her clinical privileges.
Services include new patient
consultation; established (follow up) visits; Botox injections; Occipital nerve
blocks and sacroiliac; and joint injections and trigger points.

Responsible for providing the patient
with risks, benefits and alternative treatments and securing the informed
consent of the patient/family needed before conducting invasive procedures.

He/She evaluates the patient to assess
any changes in the physical status, and make recommendations for continue care
as needed.

Physiatrists are expected to be BLS
certified.

Participates in various hospital
committees, department and hospital in-service programs and acquire CMEs as
required.

Work effectively with patients,
families, co-workers, and other health care professionals treating them with
respect and dignity.

Complies with information security
policy and procedures.

Provides patient care which is
appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of
the adult and/or geriatric patient. He/she
must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate
to the age of the patients served within the Surgical Service. The physiatrist must demonstrate the
knowledge of the changes associated with aging and possess the ability to
provide care based upon age-related factors as specified on the competence
assessment checklist.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires a full range of physical activity, including lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching above the shoulder, use of fingers and both hands, walking, standing, repeated bending, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
In
order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:
Basic Requirements:
Must be
proficient in written and spoken English.
- Degree of doctor of medicineor an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine
or osteopathic medicine.
- Current, full andunrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State,
Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of
Columbia.
